Errors with Super Tuner
We tried to tune a bike, and every so often, Nolan crashes, and sometimes we get the blue screen of death. The computer is running Windows XP with SP2. We figured we'd try a different computer -- our laptop which is running Windows Vista. Same exact problem. We updated the software to the latest version, and that didn't help. We tried a different tuner and a different bike, and we're still having the exact same problem. It's really hard to believe that we can have this problem on two different computers with different ECMs and tuner modules.
Just to give some extra info, the blue screen has the following stop code:
0x0000010D (0x0000000B, 0x79C5B728, 0x00000001, 0x865B8188)
According to Microsoft, the cause of the error is "the spin lock is being released by a thread that did not acquire it." In other words, a resource being used by the software is "locked" so that it cannot be shared elsewhere.Butsomehowit's being stolen (either by another part of the software, or an externalprogram)through memory when it is supposed to wait for the resource to be freed up. That's causing the program to have a fit, because it no longer has the resource it needs to function. So the program, and sometimes Windows, thus shuts down over it either because itsimply can't continue, or it shuts down because it sees it as a security threat. That's a pretty detailed explanation of what's apparently going on -- and yet it doesn't help me one bit because I don't know how to stop it from happening.
Just to try and be sure to get rid of any communication problems, I unplugged my USB extension cable and tried a short USB cable by itself. I tried using a different USB cable. I watched the DVD to see if there was anything we were doing wrong -- didn't learn anything I didn't already know from it.
We have a bike on the dyno that's supposed to go out tomorrow, and we're having a very difficult time getting it tuned because of this issue. Sometimes the program will run good for a good 15 or 20 minutes before crashing. Other times it doesn't last that long. One thing that is consistent is when it does crash, it's while running the bike. Sometimes we can run the bike and it won't crash, but there's those few times that it does. It's crashed a total of 10 times now.
Calling Harley-Davidson doesn't help because they try to direct us to our local dealer, and they don't have a clue what's going on either. So I'm screwed at the moment unless someone can give me some sort of guidence. It would be very much appreciated.
Another problem is in this particular case, Harley-Davidson gives the run-around and suggest there's a problem with your computer. I'd like to know why it's happening on more than one computer then if that's the case. I really don't know what the problem is, but it's pretty good reason to suspect a problem in the software.
Good luck andI'm sure you will find an answer!

1)Start by getting a piece of paper & writing down everything you do...step by step, so you can re-trace to get back where you started.
2)Try going to start/run/type in "msconfig"/go to "startup" tab/start unchecking the bullshit programs that load into memory, like adobe acrobat, taskbar items like microshit "instant messenger", even your anti-virus programs, depending on your particular system will depend on what you require to run, I would leave things like "intel", "microsoft", "pointing device"....etc completely alone.
3)Then RE-BOOT each time after unchecking every two items, unless you know what you are unchecking & what it is you are not allowing to load.
IF by chance you do go too far & your computer does not start, there is still a chance you can hit F8 while it isbooting up & go into SAFE MODE & re-check the last two items you unchecked. I know this is a long drawn out process, but it can fix it sometimes, especially if you have got games loading, or utilities like a scanner/copier/printer all in one unit, most of the things that get loaded from the startup do absolutely nothing except take up resources in memory. One of these resources just might be already loaded into a higher address or lower than normal address that Nolan is trying to use, causing the crash.
I would recommend this first, then maybe going into the services, that's another can of worms all together.
Good luck, let us know how you come out!
Ron
