Default Wiring and Circuit Help

I need a circuit that taps into the brake light circuit and adds another 12 Volt Light. The issue is I need that circuit from the time the brakes are actuated to cut off power automatically in 10 Seconds. I am adding an LED flashing light that is incredibly bright but only want it on for the first 10 seconds of braking. I also am going to run a switch that will allow the light to be turned on.

Do you guys know of a capacitor, resistor or any quick and easy way to make this happen?

Capacitors add capacitance , a resistor adds resistance. Im afriad niether will help you in this instance. What you need is a 12 VDC timer relay. These come in a million varieties, you should easily find one that suits you. The real question, which I cant answer by the detail provided, is do you want the additional lighting in series or parallel with the original brake circuit? Seems, if im understanding , both wiring methods will give you same desired function. Respond, and I can draw you a wiring diagram.

I wish I knew which I need..parallel or series. Make a suggestion. IF you know a timer that would work using a a circuit powered by cigarette Lighter. Let me get home and next week will have more info. Gee..I appreciate your help.

Honestly, 12vdc timer relay will yield 2 million results. If you search the term 528T relay , i sorta like it because its enclosed.

Simply take the positive side of the break circuit lose (BY removal of 1 wire) Put that wire to the positive side of the relay coil or what they may call the trigger. Take the negative side of the relay coil (or trigger) and put it exactly where you took off the positive break circuit wire. Now your timer is in series with the break light and it will power off after the time you dial into it. You are not finished at this point but you are close. Pick out a relay first and repost. This is much easier than you think probably.
