2001 Softail Deuce. When I turn on the ignition switch the left turn signal starts blinking. It will not go off unless I turn on the right turn signal, then turn that off. The left turn signal will not go on when I hit the left turn signal button. The right one works fine. If I turn them both on, they both go on.
...that's it? You have been riding along for years and one morning this problem with your turn signals started up? No work done on the switches or lights, wiring, or anything, just out of the blue?
If this is the scenario you are describing, then look over the wiring, switches, and connectors until you are satisfied that nothing is wrong anywhere and if it is still happening, replace the turn signal module.
If you have been tinkering with anything that has anything remotely to do with the electrical system, start trouble shooting there. Missing grounds and intermittent circuit faults are a bitch to isolate.
skinman, thanks for the response. Just bought the Deuce from a private party. One owner, maintained by a well respected independent shop. I haven't messed with it at all, and I doubt the prior owner did either. It is bone stock, with 10K miles, garage kept with cover. My last HD was in 1983. BMW since then, but as age and intellect continue to grow, I came to appreciate a lower seat, and closer service centers, hence the return to the MoCo. Since I started riding in 1967, the concept of a turn signal "Module" is new to me and I was trying to access if they were an item in need frequent replacement.
The bulbs all function fine, so I was doubtful it could be a corrosion issue with the switch housing. The flashers work fine. It comes down to the left turn signal just doesn't go on when the button it hit. The right side works fine. The left turn signal starts flashing as soon as the ign. switch is turned on. It will not turn off by hitting the switch button. I have to turn on the right signal to turn off the left. If I turn on the flashers they both work.
Bottom line, I am headed to the dealer as soon as the monsoon stops, but I wanted as much info as I could muster prior to walking into the dealer.
