Default Fried Negative Battery Terminal

Anybody ever has a negative battery terminal cable come loose and ruin the battery? This happened on my 2012 1200C Sportster.

Thanks for the pic.

I have a friend who has a cracked piece on one of his battery posts, just like how yours broke off.

I just sent the link to him, perhaps your trouble will help someone else avoid the same thing.

Thanks,

Shane

Good idea is to check battery cables for tightness ever 3 months. The Harley engine shake and vibration will cause the cables to get loose.

On a rubber-mount Sportster, move the negative cable to the lug on the back of the primary ... That way, you can firmly tighten the negative terminal on the battery before sliding the battery into the tray ... then connect the pos terminal. I'm convinced that it was supposed to be this way ... I can't for the life of me figure out why it isn't from the MoCo. I've made this change to dozens of RM sportster with, including my wife's ...
Harley starters draw ****-tons of current ... Loose terminals will absolutely cook right off of the battery (as you now know) if they're not tight.

Many thanks.
Makes one wonder why the MoCo turns a deaf ear to suggestions such as yours.
