08 FLTR Brake Light/Charging issues..
When I turn the battery on the brake light goes on. I have been seeing intermittent issues with the charging system dropping down to 8v and back up to 13.95v. This all started when I had my rear tire changed at the HD dealership(don't worry I bought the tire somewhere else and needed it put on for a ride..hence $100.00 for having a tire mounted on a Monday).. One of the things that the dealership noticed was a rear brake light out. I stopped at the local Napa on my way home and got a new one. Once I replaced it, I realized it was on full time. On my way home, I started seeing the voltage dropping and coming back up on the way home to the above stated levels. This only happened once I replaced the bulb. So I have taken the front brake lever off, and when I depress the switch all the way, the brake light goes out. I have looked at the rear brake switch connectors and am not seeing anything wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction? It clearly seems like a short.. But I'm not sure where. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! It seems to me this could be a light socket issue, but the switch is throwing me.

With the brake light issue fixed, I am still having some strange issues with my voltage dropping, intermittently, when the bike is hot and going down the road. I replaced my Voltage regulator 2 years ago with a Drag Specialties model. When I restart the bike I am showing normal voltage.. I will start with the testing procedure for the Voltage Reg and then move to testing the stator. Also lights went out on the Voltage Gauge within the past six months.. Replace gauge or are the lights replaceable. And advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
A short is when the current finds a path to ground before it reaches the intended component, bulb etc.
The result is the component will not operate (because the current found a short cut back to the battery), and the fuse will blow, because there is no resistance in the circuit.
