starter problem w/82 shovel fxe
I have a 82 fxe that sat 10 yrs. after new battery oil & gas I tried the electric starter. I turned on key hit the start button and the starter cranked. when I released the button the starter kept cranking. When I shut of the ignition switch the starter kept cranking until I disabled the ground at the battery. When reconnected the battery and hit button same problem, any thoughts?

Go to this site and pull up your bike, or one close to it and look at the electrical starter solenoid and starter shaft with housing. I bet you need to disassemble both and clean them up. Find a good service manual to show you the steps.
