Ok could use a little help.
My RG is still on original battery, 4.5 yrs, always on a tender and in a garage. Just turned 20k about 2 weeks ago.
about 2 months ago when I start the bike, v meter stays at 10v until a burp the throttle, then hits 14+. in the last week I start the bike, burp the throttle and it stays at 10v, ck engine light comes on and battery light. go about 3 blocks and no change... shut the bike off, turn back on and restart, burp the throttlle and lights go out??? battery, stator or regulator??? I run LED's at night while riding, have had daymakers since new, added Hog tunes 160w amp and speakers and I run a small strebel air horn.
I have a 103, Screamin Eagle Cone, V&H Radius and Power Commander V.
I'm thinkin the stator is going out but not sure??
Any help??
Sounds like a battery to me. Holding at 10v but spikes to 14v when the trottle is blipped means the stator is putting out fine. If you check battery voltage while cranking does it drop at all? Does it labor when starting?

Definitely a problem with the charging system. It's usually a voltage regulator problem, but the stator needs to be checked.

Thanks for the input...
Drops to 10 when cranking, usually does't labor when starting...

Yeah I'm thinkin the battery is getting weak, with the PCV if I wait for my engine light to go out b4 I hit the button, it has a hard lope when starting, but if I just wait till the spurt of fuel stops, she starts fairly easy. Last year I went about 4 months w/o the tender and I think the battery started to weaken??
I'm of the school of thought that a properly working electrical system shouldn't need one. If it was sitting without being used then yes, monitor and charge the battery. But a bike that's used shouldn't draw from the battery. I bought a new battery a few months before my hip surgery and the bike sat for probably 8 months... Still at 13.9 when I finally could ride again. Battery lasted 3 years.
If it runs fine and is charging, then the only things I can think of are a broken cable. But not on your bike if its that new. I would say battery but it's not a 100% as I'm not there with my meter.
