Default Starter issues

I have 97 Heritage with a Total Performance 121" motor in it.

Everything was fine, then I went to start er and click click wtf

I replaced the battery to troubleshoot because it was in there since 2015.

Tried to start it and click click (from starter)

I tried to rock her in gear and still nothing.

Ran beautiful and now I don't know a good wrench in West Palm

Put your hand on the starter and press the start button, can you feel the solenoid moving in the starter?

If so, it most likely means the electrical contacts in the solenoid need to be replaced.

You can get a solenoid rebuild kit from any starter repair shop (these are very common automotive starters), or you can get a more expensive (not better) kit from the dealer.

If the solenoid does not move when the start button is pressed, it is probably a bad starter relay, they are cheap, even from the dealer.

I just checked and there is movement when I hit the starter button. Does the starter need to come out to replace those items?

No, disconnect the battery and remove the end cover from the solenoid (not the starter motor).

You should be working with a factory service manual...
