Was with my brothers on a ride a the bike just quit on me on the highway. Every time I hit the kill switch the fuse blows up. The lights o the bike are working, the radio as well but, can't start the bike. Please help !!!
I suspect the wire between the kill switch and the ECM has chafed and worn away the insulation, causing a short to ground.
The White/Black wire is the one to look at, look first for any obvious points where a wiring bundle moves around and might rub against a bracket etc...
This bike started to miss and cut-out when I would hit a bump in the road when I started riding this Spring. Memorial Day weekend I pulled the seat and side covers, started the bike in the garage and started moving wires to see if I could get it to cut-out like on the road. No luck there so I shut it off and looked it over, found some more wires I didn't see before, tried to start the bike and No Start. The fuel pump, lights, and everything worked but no start. I used the test light to check power at the start button and kill switch, they both had power in and out. Then I remembered the problems I had on old cars with fuses that looked good but would not pass current through them. I pulled the Ignition Fuse, looked it over, put it back in. Then the Starter Relay, looked it over and put it back. Tried the starter and it started and ran just fine. So I pulled every fuse and relay out, scraped the prongs and used scotch-brite to clean them and then put electrical contact grease on them and put them back in. They didn't really look that corroded to me but this is what the problem was. Hope this gives someone a hand if they have a no-start problem.
