Disconnect connector from solenoid/starter motor ... Squeeze tab , and connector will slip off ....(Install prong of red lead from multi meter into this connector, making sure you have good contact with metal spade in connector)..
When you press start button, (with ignition on, and kill switch in the run position), this wire is energized ,,, this closes solenoid/switch ,,, this will then allow power , (where your finger is), to power up starter motor, (which cranks over your engine) .... Good luck ....
thank you also does anyone know what 2 or 3 wires are associated with off/run and the start button I need to know the colors only because I pulled the starter relay and flipped it to run and then held in the start button which started my fuel pump which leads me to believe and I don't know how this happened maybe some of the wires that are similar in color got swapped while splicing again it sucks to say that because I thought I was being thorough and splicing with the correct wires but it seems to me that they are just switched all I need to do is figure out the colors and flip them and it should work. I tested continuity with all the wires and none of them are grounded and none of them are shorting together.

update **
i checked continuity made sure there were no shorts or grounded wires and then through process of elimination I found my fuel pump and start wire switched them at the plug and I'm riding again!
Thanks for all the help and pointers this is my first HD!
After I figured out my issue I installed new tank along with 1.5" lift and diamond grips except gas side. Now just to button it up and adjust mirrors and controls. I'll post pics after white walls and after the detail. Also one with my sissy bar.
Good to hear you sorted the wiring out .... For you and others in the future,, with wiring, and electrical installations, before you button everything up, it is a good idea to test circuits etc,, with a meter, and or a test light, to confirm everything is good, otherwise, off everything comes .... Cheers..
first off yes I modded the bike all I did was install bars but I professionally spliced and sealed the extensions connected my molex connectors backup everything works properly ( turn signals, brake lights , horn , etc ) but when I click from off to run the bike tries to start. I checked my wiring 3 times. I don't know if the relay or switch could be sticking but I'm at a loss.
Before I cower and take it to the shop I figured I'd ask for help.

I had that same issue today I brought some tools home from work took me 10 minutes to get it started . First there was that damn blown fuse every time I replaced it the start button would blow it. So I thought maybe my starter was partially engauged. Popped her in 5th, pushed forward and back so I could hear the motor turn put a fuse in and it started.my guess is my voltage was low or my starter is going. Any thoughts from anyone else?
