Hi all
I recently bought a 2010 road king and on two occasions I've had acceleration problems after getting caught in rain.
it starts and runs ok but then after a few miles all power is lost and there's no response from the twist grip.
has anyone else had similar probs after wet conditions or is it something else.
cheers guys stay safe.
It migh be worth checking for trouble codes via the speedometer.
A search on the forum should explain how to do it and may help you narrow down where to start looking.
It sounds like the bike is going into "limp" or limited power mode which often happens due to a correlation issue from either the throttle grip sensors or the throttle body sensors. That is if it is throttle by wire as mentioned by Zanthamos above.
If it is Throttle by wire, there may be water getting into the connectors through the circuit, if you have an open element air cleaner (the air cleaner elemet is exposed) you may be getting water in the filter causing drivability issues, there are rain socks available for most open air cleaners that will prevent most issues.
2 Questions, 1) Throttle by wire? 2) Open air cleaner element?
Thanks, I've just checked the connection on the throttle wires and it looks like there has been a quick fix by the previous owner.
After speaking with the HD dealer where I got it from they have no knowledge of any repairs, which doesn't surprise me.
If there has been a poor connection would this be a possible cause?
