Could someone out there give me some advise. I have a 2012 Softail Deluxe with an intermittent short. While riding my dash light and tail light go out simultaneously for around 10-15 seconds, this can happen a few times over a couple of hours. I have had the bike in to my local dealership and they had it for 2 days and couldnt find the fault. Within 20 minutes of leaving the dealership it happened again. Where can I start to look as this is driving me nuts. I have checked the rear loom under the rear guard and this is still intact and hasnt dropped, the fuses are all good and all the globes are tight and not loose in their connectors. Any assistance is greatly appreciated, Bermo
ACCY fuse is the O/W wire which feeds power to both Dash and tail lights, I would start with that wire, it goes to the R/G wire in the ignition switch, you could check the ignition switch as well, on the back of the ignition switch is a snap ring that holds the switch contacts together, maybe there is some disconnect going on in there as well.
I was thinking about the non-Canbus models, the Canbus models the Blue wire is the running wire and it gets power from the BCM. I would shake the connector to the BCM while the lights are supposed to be on, maybe a bad pin in the connector. . .
I have the exact same issue with my 2012 Deluxe. It is driving me nuts. Dealership just replaced the BCM to no avail. Riding along the accy wire in the DLC goes out. Along with the power to speedo and indicator lights below the speedo. Headlight, horn, engine, turn signal all keep working.
any electrical gurus out there?
