Default Tach dead?

Not that I really use it but it's nice knowing that it works.
Went for the first real ride of the year, looked down and the tach was not working? So I finished my ride, parked the bike and did some quick trouble searching .. There is power to the tach as when bumping the key it does spike
So I then broke out trusty manual and it only tells me how to Unhook and reinstall it. Nothing elas..

Any thought please...
As I said I do not use it for anything other than cosmetic as I shift by sound and feel.

What model and year? Check the tach signal wire, power wires will allow the tach to bounce but no tach signal would prohibit the tach from working.

Tach signal comes from the ECU, check the SIP for the wire diagrams: https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....cle/lookupForm

unfortunately, you can only test it with the hd scanner. but if you have equipment such as a power supply and signal generator, it can be tested that way.
check for power on tach terminal #1 check ground on #2 and check signal in from #3 to ecu tach output pin #3 should be pink wire.

The tach I installed on my Street Bob a few years ago started to act up. I pulled it off and tightened the 2 connections. Now it works fine. Not saying this is your problem but it's where I would start.
