2014 Fat Boy, typical dash LED moisture issue
I had the same issue that so many pre-2018 Fat Boy owners have with the dash wiring harness getting moisture in the LED area and shorting out the LEDs so I FINALLY ponied up the $113 for a new harness. Got it home, took the old one off (of course having to do the "Tank Tango"; removing fuel line at the quick-disconnect and then removing the breather hose on the top side, without removing the stupid, f'n bottom crossover hose) put the new one on, did the reverse "Tank tango", bolted everything back together, and the bike wouldn't start. Throwing error code "b2116" which is "Fuel Pump Output Open". I proceeded to do the "Tank Tango", checked ALL my wires leading from the new harness to the connections. I re-seated all my connections. Reverse tank tango. Nothing. Same error code. Repeat all the steps to remove the new harness and put the old harness back on, only did what I needed to do to get the tank back in place and all the connections made, and the bike fires right up. So I disconnect the old harness AGAIN. Put the new harness on. Tank Tango, yadda yadda.... FIRES UP. GREAT!! Put EVERYTHING back together like she's ready to ride, turn on the ignition, hit the starter, NOTHING. Same error code. WTF?!?! Repeated everything up above again. Bike runs with the old harness, new harness will only work some of the time. Chased it down to believing there MUST be a short in the new wiring somewhere.
Now my dilemma becomes this; HD's electrical policy is that once you plug it in, there are no returns. Since I bought the part at my HD dealer and plugged it in, I don't know if they'll let me exchange it. I sure as hell HOPE they will or I guess I will have to tear the new harness all apart and either find the broken/shorted wire or I'll cut off the LED housing on both harnesses and swap them out.
Talk about frustrating.
Sometimes it's a pain in the *** to do a search because you don't search for exactly the right thing. Thank you for sharing that.
honestly I can’t say what’s going on with yours, one would think the new part was toast as well from what your saying...especially since it runs with the old part...
