My o6 was giving charging issues on a trip, replaced regulator
im going through the sticky, I unhooked the stator, im getting 12 volts at the stator pins of the regulator, so it fails the "sticky test" but the test light on the pins won't light a bulb, so were 50/50.
thats a $200 guess with 50/50 test results. The sticky is from o5, the bike is o6.
o6 is 3 pins to stator, is o5?
I was able to ride several days and hundreds of miles with this regulator.
The symptoms are CEL on and dash volt meter occasionally taking a 10 second trip to 8 volts, I know a volt meter at the battery wouldn't go from 14 to 8 in under a minute, but I'll put one on there any way.
Any input appreciated.
edit to add after sitting for a week battery voltage is 13 volts. Stator checks good

Since the battery and stator tested OK, couldn't you read the regulator right at the battery posts? 14.25 or thereabouts when the engine running is a good regulator. Much higher than that and you have a regulator issue.

I put a Battery Tender dvm on a pigtail direct to the battery, hopefully tomorrow is ride time
the auto parts test machine usually has clips or test plugs for various auto but not hd. if you make a pig tail for the regulator, they and clip to it. the machine outputs a ac wave to the regulator and the machine reads the output from the regulator, they can vary voltage and load so if it is rated for say 50 amps, they can do that.
there is a lot of info for testing and a simple one i found was on j&p cycle tech page.

You have a link to the tech page?
busy day today, picking up the grandkids and have 2 birthday parties.
May be able to get grease under my finger nails tomorrow.
Went for a 40 mile ride, dash guage dropped to 8 volts once for maybe a minute, voltage at battery during the event was 13.3 the wife tells me.
So where does the dash volt meter get its info?
radio also resets during the 8 volt reading
Confirmed today volt gauge is on ignition side where as the radio is on the accessory, ran an extra ground from the frame directly to the radio case. If it stops raining......
