Last weekend I replaced the tail / brake light bulb in my 2014 Road King with an LED bulb. It is brighter than the stock (non-LED) bulb and strobes 5x then stays on when I hit the brake lever. But now there is a red light on my dash - I assume due to the bulb. Is there a fix for the red light (ecm flash or plug and play module?). This is the only light mod so far - may eventually go all LED but was just looking for the strobe brake light for a little more visibility in the back. Thanks in advance.
Thanks bustert and iceman. I had to google how to check for codes and what they were. Thanks to Fuel Motos website for a good table of all the codes. There was an old abs code from when I changed my rear tire that I cleared and then the current one b2161 - brake lamp output open. So I need a resistor because of the lower draw from the led (or maybe because it strobes so no draw when it flashes)?
Any suggestions on what to get that is plug and play? I would rather not cut wires, also dont want to melt anything. I do surgery every day at work and do a lot of general mechanical stuff on my bike and cars, but wiring and electrical stuff makes me nervous. Im partially color blind so if the wires are not black, red, and white I usually have someone else at least confirm what color the wire is.
The strobing bulb was the issue. I replaced the strobing LED bulb with a Sylvania (non-strobing) LED bulb from the auto parts store. That took care of the code and red light on the dash. But I wanted a strobing rear brake light, so....
I bought LED front and rear turn signals, red lenses for the back, clear lenses for the front, and the Custom Dynamics Smart Triple Play module to make the rear lights strobe as well as have the turn signals on as running lights. A little more expensive than the $20 bulb that I started with, but very happy with the results.
