I have a 2000 Softail Heritage that won't charge the battery. I'm hoping that someone who experienced the same issue where replacing the stator and regulator didn't fix the issue may have an answer for me. OEM regulator died. Back of case was partially melted. Checked the stator and it showed good per manual and sticky on forum. Bought and replaced two new regulators and it still won't charge. Checked grounds, wires for tight connections and corrosion and main circuit breaker; all good. Battery is a year old, kept on a trickle charger, shows fully charged and easily starts the engine. Took bike to my local Harley dealer and they said stator was bad even though it tested good for me. Told them to replace it, they're the experts, right? They replaced the stator and it still won't charge. Then said the my new regulator was bad; said the bad stator fired it on ride to dealer. They replaced the regulator and it still won't charge. They then replaced the main circuit breaker, twice with two different new ones and it still won't charge. I know it's a simple system but they're stumped and I'm getting frustrated with them just throwing parts at the problem. There's got to be a simple solution for this that they're overlooking but my dealer can't find the problem. Has anybody else experienced a similar no charging problem where the stator, regulator, battery were not the problem? I would greatly appreciate knowing what fixed your problem.
PS. the dealer said once they find and fix the problem they'll put my original regulator back on and won't charge me for the new one or labor to install.
Sorry, I was just trying to be thorough with the background and what has already been done to try and resolve the problem.
Anybody else? I saw on a google search that several people have had this issue but never found a good solution to the issue.
If you replaced the battery, regulator, Stator and your battery still doesn’t charge what’s left? Rotor and conductors. Rotor is easily tested by Stator output test, has anyone ohmed out the wires from the Reg to battery positive and ground?
Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure. I'll check with the stealer tomorrow to see if they've ohmed out those wires. Stator is putting out a full charge so I assume the rotor is okay.
