I want to replace the stock headlight bulb on my '08 FXDL with an LED headlight that's very very bright. Can I get away with just replacing the bulb? Or do I need to replace the entire lamp? And are there any makes/models (including if HD makes one) that y'all might recommend? Not trying to break the bank but I'll spend for quality and long lasting. The goal is obviously vastly improved vision at night. Thanks for the help.
There are many options.
Sylvania Quartz- but they run hot and don't like the vibration
LED replacement bulb, fits your stock lens but not designed to work with the lens fluting.
LED bulb, complete replacement. There are Chinese knock offs. Sunpie was a favorite and of good quality BUUUUT.
after getting their name out there with a good reputation they cheapened the quality and the new ones are not as good.
(probable due to tariffs and COVID)
Truck light was a good choice when they first came out, but advancement have left them behind.
JW Speaker is your best bet With their adaptive headlight, but it has a soft white color.
I'm back to the HD Daymaker (for now) it's bright and white matches my Custom Dynamics run/turns.
2nd that vote. Put eagles in for all my lights. Love them. Added the custom dynamics triple play equalize and couldn't be happier. All of my buddies remark on how bright they are. Brighter than the daymakers.
I'd suggest you replace to whole lamp. You can buy an LED bulb, but the reflector in the housing does not really focus the beam as well. It will be better than stock, but definitely not as good as it could be. The posters above gave some good choices for you to look into.
I will say once you go LED you'll never want anything else.
