speedo display issues

I'm having intermittent speedo display issues. It began with the cruise control dropping out or not engaging. Then the speedometer indicator would drop off completely, along with the other indicators on the speedo display. The LED backlight would turn off and there'd be no signal indicators either. Then all the indicators would return, including the backlit LED, often when I shift down or put the turn signal on. The little red indicator light would come on for a short time as well, then turn off. Sometimes I get a "LOW BATT FOB" notice. (I put a new battery in the fob, but that didn't help.) The bike turns on and runs fine, though it does seem to run a little rough when the indicators are down. Any suggestions?
