I numbered the terminals with the hope that someone could give me and exact wiring layout. Example - 7 to 8, A to 5, B to 3
I have been working on a 1977 Cafe Racer and need some help with the wiring from battery and push button start to starter relay, starter solenoid, and starter. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. I wired it accordingly. I have lights when I turn on the key, but nothing when I push the starter button. Battery is charged, Relay, solenoid, and starter are new.
To add to what Dan mentioned about the ground. Depending your battery box, it may be on rubber vibration isolators which will require a seperate ground wire in itself.
A volt meter is your friend here in troubleshooting it.
I have the ground wire eyelet under the nut holding the starter relay to the battery box. I ran it to the battery ground bolt on the frame under the seat. Will it make a difference if the ground is on the backside of the relay?
No, will not make a difference as long as it's in contact with the relay's mount. You need to use a volt meter to determine where the fault is. while start button pushed, measure at every terminal. Start with the small terminal to relay to test start button, then follow the path from the battery..... In to the relay, out of the relay, in to the solenoid, out of the solenoid and finally to the starter.
