My father-in-law has a 2005 Softail that has stopped cranking altogether. Turn signals won't work and FOBs wont work either.
Electrical service manual indicates to check that the TSSM is plugged in and then some diagnostics for continuity. At the end of the flowchart, if continuity is good, then to replace the TSSM. The TSSM is part number 68923-00D. It is obsolete. I talked to the local HD dealer and they said it was obsolete. I asked what was HD's alternative and he said I could get an aftermarket TSSM, but that where he checked, it was out of stock. So I have the HD dealer telling me that I am out of luck with the bike.
With that said, I don't know what my options are, but I suspect there are some. I could go used, but what if this happens again? If you try to get one of those and look across the internet, they aren't really out there. Are there other options such as going to a regular TSM that doesn't have the security, but allows for starting and turn signals working?
It seems strange that HD would leave this hanging like this, but that's what the dealer told me has happened. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The online parts have been revved.
Yours uses:
68921-01C NON Security - no fob needed
68923-00C Security - fob needed. I have one of these, feel free to PM me.
68923-00D is just a supercession for security.
Was battery recently dead or did bike sit a long time?

********The battery went dead and the bike sat for about 10 months
Hold the fob next to the left handlebar and hold and press the button on the fob for up to two minutes. Many times they will resync. Make sure the fob has a good battery.
Thank you for the response. When jumping 12 and 9 it starts, runs for a second, then stalls. Then starts right back up. I can hear the fuel pump kick back in after it stalls. It seems from what I have read that the bank angle sensor would cause that, but the TSSM has that, so if it's unplugged something seems to be causing the ECM to want to stop and restart the fuel pump.
