For your part of the country, without a lot of heat, that is a very new battery. Though it happens, and should be covered under warranty. Unless they do a load test, and say it is fine. Is it some goofball battery?

Being that cycling the ignition makes a difference, you'll have to make a call, if they don't warranty battery. One hand it is always good to have a newer battery, on the other you don't need to ignition switches. But it is a 20 year old bike, and a new ignition switch is a new part that won't be failing anytime soon.

Think I'll order a Switch
Where are you measuring voltage, are you using a voltmeter touching the probes to the battery posts (not cable terminals)?

If he's doing it at the battery terminals,he might need to clean the voltmeter probe tips..

Being a trike, I'd suspect the wire harness has a broken wire..

Voltage readings should be taken at the battery posts, not at the cable terminals.

Agreed.

at the steering neck.

FWIW If the voltage is bouncing all over at the battery terminals and the battery good, there is something wrong with the voltmeter. The measurement doesn't make any sense.

Might not be worth hassle ,but you could jumper out ignition. Probably have to take fairing off and find connector. Problem might be once you open the connector, you might lose other stuff you need.

Easy to do with dash mounted switch.

Well, finally got the battery shop that told me a week ago that my "battery is like brand new" , That now my battery is shorted internally like he's never seen. Battery won't take a charge , shows 8-10 volts but won't light a 12 volt bulb !!

So we charged up a new battery and I just put it in , connected volt meter and worked my ignition switch every which way and the volt meter hardly moves. Very slight drop in the on position ,which is normal.
But no jumping around with all the crazy voltages I was getting before . Working very normal. No longer appears as though it had anything to do with the switch . Just a really strange shorted battery only 14 months old. But the new one was only $106 with tax with a 12 month guarantee
