Good morning forum,
I have a 2008 streetglide that did not come with spot lights. I bought an oem wiring harness that operates the spot, acc, cruise, and speakers out of a 2009 electra glide. They have the same harness as 2008. Does the headlight have to be plugged in for the passing lamps to work. The turn signals work and the spot light switch is lit but the passing lamps are not working. The lights work as I tried them in another bike. Any help is appreciated.
Yes, the headlight usually needs to be plugged in for the passing lamps to function properly. The wiring harness relies on the headlight circuit to complete the circuit for the passing lamps. Since your turn signals and switch are lit, check the headlight connection and any related fuses. If everything checks out and they still dont work, you might want to inspect the wiring for any issues.
I don't know about all setups, but I think you should try it with hi/lo switch on low beam. I think most are wired to only work on low beam and when switched to high to go off.
Thanks guys finally got them to work. The pin in the wiring harness was not making a good connection. Got the pin in and they came on!! Thanks for all your help.
...and you can buy a harness to keep the passing lamps on while the high beams are on ... or do some "trickery" on the existing harness ... Not legal in some states
