Default speedometer problems

My 2000 883 had a low battery and would not start. I used a battery charger and tried to jump it. Battery too dead. Charged up battery and now speedometer is not working neither is the odometer. I cleaned the sensor still no speedo. I uses the self diagnostic mode on the speedo and d08 showed. All of the things I have read state that the speedometer needle should sweep once entering the diagnostic mode. Mine does not. Did I fry the speedo when I tried jumping my bike with a bead battery?

tonedef, I would pull both cables off the battery and unplug the ECM. Let it set for a few and connect it back up in that order and see what results
