man you ain't kidding. really sucks (as I did with my 06 road king) if that headlamp slips out of your grip and lands right on top of the fender. nice little knick there to remind me everytime I washed it afterwards.

Followed instructions. Perfect. The white connector on the upper left side (as viewed when looking at the headlamp) seems to be the problem. I grabbed it and squeezed the connector tight. It did not click or anything. And the passing lights now work. I then wiggled it a bit and they stayed on. Prior to doing all this I replaced both passing lamps with a little brighter bulb. 37W vs the stock ones. Nice and bright now.
BUT, another problem happened. The directional lights don't work now!
The bulb are lit, but no directionals. Maybe I bumped a connection when I was grabbing connectors? Can you tell me which connector is for directionals? Or maybe I need to put the headlamp assembly back in first?

You shouldn't have to put the headlight back in. Just poke around a little, look for the wires that come from the turn signals and follow them until the connector. Its awfully weird that both would go out, I'm wondering what your method for testing is, exactly? And what are the symptoms? Are the back ones flashing real fast?
Also, the passing lamp bulbs I put in are #896. From what I've read in the forums it should not be a problem using the brighter 38W lamps. As I wrote passing lamps now work fine, but no directionals. And the front parking lights are on but the rear parking lights I just noticed are NOT working.

Unless you have modified something, there are no rear parking lights, just the tailight. The turn signals on the front are parking and signal, the rear are signal only.
Thanks. I really did not know the rear parking lights are not on all the time. The front ones are on all the time. The back ones or not flashing. I did not put the headlamp back in yet. I'll wiggle the wires a little and then check wires under the seat. I didn't go out and get a tester because the passing lamp connector was just loose and they work now. I must have disturbed a wire for the directionals when I was fishing for the passing lamp connector. Thanks again. More work tomorrow. Actually having a little fun doing things myself vs going to a dealer at first sign of something wrong. Finding the passing lamp loose connection was easy because I had the switch on and knew right away it was loose when lamps came on. But for directionals I would not know if they are on or off when I wiggle the wires!
Thanks again fot the help. I reached the limit as to what I can do myself. So I made the dealer call. Surprise to me! It is covered under my warranty. However, I did enjoy looking at it myself. I do not plan to mention I did anything myself. I'll just say lights don't work.
