Default Flat or Domed...that is the ?

I've read the bazillion threads on headlamps and understand its Cibie or Hella; however, the Cibie is domed and the Hella is flat. So...there lies the question. I'm not a tightwad but I'm also all about saving $30 and going Hella, but does the shape make a difference in performance or in looks? Also, do you need a trim ring to cover the aftermarket bulb?
Thanks, Jim

The domed gives a wider light dispersion, the flat bulbs dispersion is achieved by the reflector.
And no, you don't need a trim ring. Unless you want one. But you'll lose light to the side without having driving lights.

Cibie lights have been flat, or even dished inwards, since the 60s if not earlier, so I am inclined to say it is down to styling. However they are both good lights. I have a Valeo, who now own Cibie, and that is domed.
