Default Engine noise

I've starting noticing some noise in my 2007 EG Classic lately. Noise sounds like (I'm not good at this) maybe a chain rubbing. It's there at idle and higher throttle ranges. Hot or cold makes no difference.

Sounds like it's coming from the left side of the engine and it has 58XXX miles on it. Could it be the cam chain tensioners and the sounds like the left side?
Any idea where I start figuring this out. Also any one know a good independent shop near Bolivar TN?

Thanks

Left side noise?........as you already thought, primary?
Those 2007's do have a history of the crank sissoring, just saying.

If its coming from the left side you can rule out cam chain tensioner

If it's on the left side get a manual and pull your primary cover and check the tensioner and primary chain. Could be slapping the cover art 58K.

Thanks. I'll have to look up crank scissoring as I never heard that before.

Got the Manual in front of me. Does not look to complicated to replace the tensioner. But the chain might be harder. Anyway to check this before taking everything apart (certain sounds, ect)?

Thanks

You should be able to check it through the front inspection cover of your primary cover if you have too much chain slack and can't adjust it out with the tensioner Drain your primary fluid take the cover off inspect the entire primary drive as per the manual, also take a good look at the compensator teeth and the teeth on the clutch basket should not be real pointy sharp but if worn will add to excessive slack. Also check the fit of the chain to the sprockets if you have too much play and can't adjust it out with a new tensioner you might have to replace chain and sprockets as well. Look in the inside of the primary cover for chain contact as well as worm edges on the chain. Easiest way out is just a tensioner and may be all you need. Just check it to the manual. If in doubt take it an indy. I only got 40K out of my tensioner.

Thanks 98hotrodfatboy for the information. Mine only has the clutch inspection cover, so I guess I'll pick up a gasket from HD next time I'm in Jackson and take off the primary chain cover and take a look.

Thanks again

It's a shifting in the flywheels. Something a real experienced engine builder would have to remedy.
