Default Modify 103 stage 4

Ok it's official I hate my stage 4 kit.. Hate the pipes hate the tune hate the combo...

No not really but threads with hate seem to get more response!

So my motor did not do what it should have.. at this point I can shell out $650 and get a new tune.. But in the end I don't see it doing much more then bumping the power up some..

What is my next step from here? Do I scrap it all and start over?? Can I send the heads out and have them worked on more and.. Increase the cylinders?

Suggestions?

Sell it all and buy a 124"?

How do I sell it to someone else though

$650 for a new tune! Holy Rip-off Batman. A professional tune should run no more than $350 and it should only take around two to three hours. You need to find another shop pronto! The "Stage 4" kit from HD is notorious for it's tunability issues when using the SE 58 mm throttle body. Sometimes all it takes is finding the right wrench that has dealt with it before and is patient enough in getting it to where it should be. It took them 4 hours to tune my FLHX up to 105/110 and that's what the MoCo advertises. Also needed to step up to the next larger set of injectors.

I have no Idea why some still opt for the SE stage 4 kit. Have not heard anything pleasing yet. **** man 650 for a tune what are you knutz? I'm pretty sure a mild 107" build will blow away both the cost and performance of an SE kit....don't get it......

Get a proper tune! Stage 4 SE kits can work ok, just not as good as a proper build...

There's not all that much difference in a properly tuned 103" kit from the MoCo and a 107" kit from another outfit, mild or not. Maybe a few horsepower and a little more torque but the overall total performance is pretty much the same. Some people just feel the need to slam anything from HD without ever riding a professionally tuned 103 and what it all really comes down to is just who exactly is riding the bike!

Start with the basics - model, year, engine.

What are your engine specs - size, heads, bore, cam, exhaust, etc. ?

What is your riding style like?

Why exactly do you hate it?

2015 streetglide.. 103 stage 4 se 585 cams.. Vance and hines stainless hi output duals...

Riding style split between two up cruising... I am 180 lbs wife is 120 lbs... We live in the hills if western New York...

When alone I like to ride hard.. Sometimes when wife us with me we will accelerate rapidly....

Top speed is not my game but u want to get to 70 asap...

Things I like about it... I like that it's all harley... Not huge in changing to different brands... When it's running good it's a monster....

Things I don't like.. It smells rich when idling.... Real rich.... If I cruise and am staying around 2400-2700 for extended periods it starts to act like it's loading up... Easy answer is run at higher rpms...

These cams should be better down low...
These pipes are not great down low...

So basically I want the best of both worlds... Comfort cruising and the quickest accelerating streetglide in the area... Not too much to ask for is it?!

I agree there us no reason the 103 can't be built to perform... We all ride Harley... But everyone sure bashes them....

I know you are calling your motor a "Stage IV" - but you are also saying it is a 103.... and your '15 should have came with a 103.....

Did you put in high compression 103 pistons?

Have you had head work done?

Or, have you only changed your exhaust, air cleaner, and cam?

What is done to the heads? What pistons? TB? Injectors? It's not you, but this is the reason I hate the "stage" designation, it means nothing. What is the ccp? What were the piston to deck heights? There is no problem with tuning a se kit for a competent tuner, dealer tuning rarely fits this description. Is it sumping? Yes the exhaust may not be optimum for your build. Tons of questions need to be answered. Starting over going 124" will have the same questions, its not a slap together either. I don't know where you are located but a shop with experience in building these types of motors can get you on the right track, easily.
