No ticking before. I did install new lifters. Could they be flat out of the box? Even if they were flat they should have pumped up by now. I just re set them both on tdc. And still ticking. 4 full turns per the directions.

TDC on the compression stroke? If the engine has run for any time at all, the lifters are pumped up. If the pushrods are S&S quickies, they are 32TPI and 4 turns sets preload at .1252". I would readjust the pushrods, with piston at TDC on the compression stroke and go to 4.25 to 4.5 turns to set preload at .135"-.140". If that doesn't quiet things down, check the pushrods for contact with the tubes as suggested in a previous post.
Ok. I'll take them up some. How can you tell they are hitting the push rods? Does it leve a mark? I put my hand on the tubes and did not feel it hitting.
They sometimes have scuff marks, but usually can be felt up top. Also make sure that the covers are properly seated up top and that the rods are fully engaged with the rockers.

The tops sections look the same to me except for the S&S tubes are longer. What s the difference?
No difference except for the length.
When I did my cam install with the S&S Quickees, I had a ticking noise on the front exhaust tube. Swapping to the shorter OEM pushrod top part fixed that.
As best I could tell, the top part of the adjustable section on the S&S rods is quite thick and was hitting the bottom part of the longer S&S tube top part. By moving to the shorter OEM part, the bottom of the tube is about an inch higher and so the adjustable part of the rod no longer made contact.
It's probably worth a try to fix - shouldn't take more than 20 minutes or so and could be the answer....
I got an Email from S&S this AM. They said it might take 40 miles for the lifters to pump up. WTF??? 40 miles? Anyhow I got the point, and went out and started it up and let it warm up. The tick diminished a lot once it got warm, so I think I am going to add that extra half a turn on the rods and see where that puts me. That will have to wait as I woke up today even sicker then before. Lost my voice. I called work and told them in small whisper voice (that's all I have) I was not coming in. Gonna deal with the sick stuff before the bike at this point.
I went out today and started it. let it warm up for about 5 mins. ticking did seem to diminish. not feeling well enough to tackle dealing with it at this point, so I am going to let it rest until I feel better.
