Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Got a stock tc96b with 4300 miles.
Want to beef it up before I installed it.
Absolutely zero experience with twin/cycle engines. However I'm mechanically inclined and want to learn.
I want more power in the low to mid range area, 99% of my riding is less than the 100mph and usually around town or short road trips (4-6 hours) 1way.
Need advice on a good combo,
Heads (cc's/valve sizes/flow rate)?
Cams (specs for head)
Bigger bore size
anything else?...
Advice on where good deals can be found as well...
What specialty tools I need?
Inner cam bearings remover/installer?
Anything else?
I have a pcV for tuning.
I have hooker trouble makers exhaust
Stage 1 Free flow with k&n filter intake
Going to start collecting parts soon.
Thanks

Reason: Specifics
We have several builders who can advise on this, who have well established and proven combinations of parts, which they add their own skills and expertise to. Fm is one, Hillside Cycle is another. They can both port your heads ann supply all the parts you need. Give one or both of them a call.

What bike is this going in? Your riding style doesn't appear to be very aggressive so I can't imagine why you would want a high HP/TQ motor...just a kick in the pants for that anemic 96"er...on the cheap..a set of SE255 cams off E bay would set you back about $100 and would provide a nice boost in the low to mid range where you say you want it. Anymore than that and it starts getting expensive....how much money do you have to spend? Where do you want to end up?
Thanks for suggestions guys.
I actually dealt with fm before (pcv).
I will call today, but hillsidecycle.com just gets me a blank page..?
That's God doing you a favor...I have an inner cam bearing puller/installer you can borrow if you want...I'd get compression releases put in those heads now...manuals work for me...better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them...better plan on changing out the compensating sprocket if it hasn't already been done...beef that motor up much at all and the stock comp will fail...guaranteed. Lots to consider when you plan on bumping up the motor..all other systems have to be considered...if you don't address the weak links now, you will later...and it's usually when you can least afford it...been there..done that...
