Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
We have been having a discussion as to why the 110's run or ran hot.
One side says because it is a 110, believing because it is a "big" motor compared to the 96's or 103's it makes more heat.
The other side says it has to do with the tune and the camshaft specs (SE-255's or SE259's) and that cubes is not the sole culprit for running hot.
Can the professional engine bulders help shed some light as to why the 110's had this problem.
The 96's, 103's, and 110's all run hot because of the OEM/EPA tune and the fact that there's this big old catalytic converter sitting in the way of the exhaust gases, clogging up the exit to the motor. That's why they run hot!
What OldEnuf said.
Install a free flowing pipe and air filter kit, and get them tuned, and then they cool right down, and run MUCH better as well.
