So my bike had a new lobe and pump cam plate as per my earlier post. Now @701 miles after winter and the first run I have the Oil light on again.!!!
Dealer thinks may be new motor required!!!
NOT GOOD! I followed your OP last fall: At that time I said to calm down and let dealer get it repaired. Now months later and riding season "on" and can't ride and your confidence in your new bike in the basement, I would be asking dealer to trade you out of it and get riding. Dealer and Harley need to step up. I would have steam coming out of my ears. "M8 not so great" You are at the point where, yes you can get it fixed, but your dealer can not give you any confidence in the bike, he can't.

I am surprisingly calm about it this time. See what the dealer and Harley want to do this time ?? Heard about their raising the idle speed on the engines to 950 instead of 850.
Understand that some people are having Oil switch issues but don't think that its the problem with this one.
I have a friend who rides a KTM Super Duke and is rebuilding an older Bonneville who had a shirt with the Bar and Shield that says "If they had as many engineers as they have lawyers, they'd have a better bike".
But then again, he seems to prefer ugly bikes, soooo... I'll keep my Harleys. Haha!
Absolutely Priceless !!! Where can I buy that shirt ? LOL
New to HD, was going to buy a RG this week, but did not realize this is a first year motor. Been burned in the past on first year stuff.
Guess I will wait for the 18 models.
I hope they do updates as the year models progress.
So far the only real problem reported has to do with the oil pumps. It was a supplier issue and it has been supposedly fixed. But I understand your concern. I bought two of the 2017's and one had a minor issue they fixed and one has no issues so far.
BTW the new engines are just in their touring bikes - the Street and Road Glides. All other models have the older twin cam engines.
I appreciate all the folks who have bought touring M8's in it's first year. I plan on getting a new Ultra in 2018 or 19. But I've never had the patience to be an early adopter.
Just be patient everyone. The Company has only been around for 114 years. It takes time to develope a reliable product. Another century or two, they'll be in the zone.

My twin-cam has been the most reliable motor vehicle I've ever owned. I'm 60 and have owned a lot of vehicles. Cam tensioners were the only issue but have been proactive on that.
i bought a 2017 road glide ultra and i have 5,000 miles on the bike and I'm on my 3rd motor. in short, the first time the oil pump failed and destroyed the piston and cylinder wall. Then three weeks later a toppet valve gasket leaked and sprayed oil down the side of the bike while riding. then on a ride to arizona the water pump failed and put me down in jackson Mississippi. I had to spend the night and cancel my trip. three weeks later the stater failed and the bike shut down more then an hour away from home. when i got the bike back to home i took it to Macon Harley and they repaired it and on the test ride with the technician the motor started knocking and after there trouble shooting found the motor was trashed again!! stick with the twin cam 103!!!!!!
