Yup, this is what happened to me as well. Wound up shattering the gerotors and had to purchase a new oil pump.

You'll like those 509's when you get it back together. I ran them for a couple of years in my Deuce (also an 88)...Tons of mid range torque, and a nice lope.
Here is what mine sounded like with the 509's

It was the oil pump once I opened it up and I corrected the problem put it back together and its great! Love the cams. I used the S&S adjustable Pushrods and S&S lifters. I used 21 flats on the adjustable rods and the valves seem noisy still. Should I put a couple more flats on it? 21 equals 3 and a half turns.

Just reading https://www.sscycle.com/tech-info/in...rod-adjustment
seems 24flats(four complete turns) is whats called for.

If those pushrods are 28TPI, 21 flats or 3.5 turns would set preload at .124"; I would go to 4 turns if the pushrods are 28 TPI and not 24 TPI. However, before you do that confirm that the pushrods are 28TPI.....

Yep... I have a set of S&S cams sitting here waiting to install in my Rocker. The instructions with the cams say "S&S adjustable pushrods have 32 threads per inch, and 24 flats (4 full turns) will place the pushrod in the optimal position of the stock tappet"

If the pushrods are 32TPI, 4 turns will set preload at the same place 3.5 turns on a 28TPI pushrod; about .125". If valve train is not quiet at that preload, set preload at about .140"-.145". Verify actual TPI before making that adjustment.

Glad to hear you fixed it. Too bad you had to take it back apart but it was better than going down the highway and finding out.

The S&S pushrods are 32TPI So I need 24 flats. I will readjust after work today!
