Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I tore down the top end of my '92 Heritage Softail Classic to fix base gasket oil leaks. I am also replacing the starter as the starter clutch finally gave out. Gasket sets are scheduled to be here on sometime next week which gives me time to get the cylinder bases machined and clean and polish all the chrome.
Engine has about eleven thousand miles on a factory rebuild. Has Vance and Hines pipes, Andrews EV27 cam, and the carb has been jetted as well as the Nightrider mid. I don't hotrod the bike but mostly run 2 up.
Now my question. Is there any work that could be done to the heads that would justify the cost? Bike currently has plenty of umph for me but since I have it apart.......

If your not looking for power I would do basic maintenance to them. I would get them cleaned, replace the valve guide seals, and exhaust studs at a minimum. I always recommend switching to bronze valve guides if your factory ones are worn and need to be replaced
For around $600 you can get a real good Street Port job that will make a very nice increase. Especially with that ev 27 cam... It will open the entire range up. Low, mid and upper end... It's called letting your motor breath... Other than a new cam it's the second best dollar for HP upgrade you can do to an Evo......
