So I've been getting some lifter fluttering/itchy noise. Can't hear it at cold start but you hear it around 2-3k RPM under driving load until warmed up. Even then it's still present but diminished. Can not hear at higher RPM's. Also you can notice more in hotter temps. I've switched oils to a Red Line 20W-60 and that helped but still there. I'm running the SE 110 kit, with perfect fit pushrods, the SE tappets and 585 cams. So I'm wondering if could put the stock tappets back in and rid my self of the noise. Or could I get a replacement tappet set that will work with these perfect fit rods. I'd really rather not run adjustables rods if I can.
If the valve train noise presents at a certain rpm range, say for talking purposes, 2600-2900, Rocker Lockers may solve the problem of the rocker shaft rotating in the support and generating the tick. You might take the time to pull a rocker cover and support and take a look at the shaft for witness marks. Check out Rockerlockers.com; I would post the link but copy/paste is not cooperating.
If that is not the problem, there are many better choices than SE lifters starting with CompCams VThunder 850-1s at about $70 all the way up to S&S Premiums, Woods Directional etc in the $250-$300 range; all will work with the PF pushrods.
You might also do the math on your valve train stack up height to be sure the PF pushrods are providing sufficient preload to reduce the valve train noise. At the end of the day, adjustable pushrods may be the solution. Not sure what you have against them when so many use them with no issues.
I failed to mention I did do the rocker lockers as well. As for the adjustables not aganst them just concerned about getting preload and adjustment correct.

dont sweat it. you can do it. s&s lifters all day long
