Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Does anyone have an idea why the engine does it only when it's hot?
The bike runs fine when it's cold outside.
Which problems can we rule out based on the fact that it only happens when it's hot?
I also noticed that the gas milage went down to 30mpg.
It smells like the gasoline mixture does not burn completely.
There is no surging at full throttle.
If I let the bike sit for a little after riding, and then ride it again, the problem gets a lot worse. May be hot engine warms up a sensor or something else?
Sounds like your fuel maps are effed-up. Check the A/F set-points by temperature in the software. Typically a lean problem gets better with heat - contrary to basic rich/lean symptoms. Running out of ideas here, now we added temperature and sensor as a variable... How hot is hot? Get her back to base and lets start again. Perhaps with a good dyno shop/tuner and some wideband O2 probes.
I could not get the o2 sensor out with an open ended wrench. The narrow nut is too deep in the concave of the exhaust.
I took the bike to HD dealer this morning... They were supposed to change the sensor and check the maps. Did not hear from them yet. I'll post an update once they get back to me.
