I had my new bike for 2 weeks 400 miles and it burned through 3 quarts of oil. The dealership said the piston ring broke which caused the oil burn. They had it for 1 1/2 weeks and when I piled it up they said they rebuilt the top end of the motor. I'm pissed to buy a new motorcycle and for the motor to be rebuilt already with only 400 miles on the motor. I asked Harley for a new motor but they denied me and said I should have no worries now.
Isn't there a more serious problem causing this being the motor has such low miles? Has this happened to anyone? And isn't this gonna mess up my resale value?
I ride with a guy that has a CVO Breakout, 103. Same issue, rings were installed incorrectly (all gaps were lined up) and did not set and 1 broke. I think he had less than 100 miles.
They rebuilt the top end, since he has put on 35k, no issues and absolutely loves it.
Just look forward and enjoy your ride, the past is the past if you dwell on it you will always hate it.

Thanks. Yeah that's what I plan on doing. I did 100 miles on Sunday and it just felt good to be back on the road again.
