They come in different thicknesses, for that flat-bearing assembly, and if need be, can be custom ground, as needed on a surface grinder.
Make sure you de-magnetize once completed.

sorry, I had a big long post typed out and the website timed out while I was uploading pictures.
I took this engine apart in 1997 as a project with my father to freshen it up, it never went back together. Im trying to put it back together now but I am stumped on where the thrust washers go. I have what I thought was a factory shop manual but its not...... I MIGHT be missing a washer. the diagram in the book shows 4 possible thrust washers aside from the 2 with the pin hole that go on the crank first. This manual also shows the washer with the tab going into the bearing race which just wont work......... unless I'm supposed to angle it in there all weird.

#10 and #25 are onthe crank correctly, the bearings are on the correct side. I am confused with that thick washer that I'm holding on the crank. Not sure where that goes. I have washer #29 and a washer that appears to be indentical minus the tab and that fell out of the left side engine case when I was cleaning it so I am pretty certain that goes in there. The washer that is shown between the 2 needle bearings on the left side might be missing. There is 1 video I found on youtube of a shop putting together a 49 and he puts the bearings on and, nothing more than I can see aside from #10 and #25 and the slaps the case on.
regarding the 2 bearings that are stacked on the left side, looking at the wear on the bottom of one and the top of the other suggest that there was no washer in between. I have no idea of the history of this bike, it may have been apart before my father got in the early 70's.
