I am planning to do some work on my 2002 FLHPI in the near future. Part of that work would be addressing the cylinder heads. A friend has some SE heads he wants to sell me but I keep reading that 06 heads are a better way to go. At this point, I am inclined to find some 06 heads and have them re-worked.
Here is where I am getting confused. There seem to be a multitude of part numbers that appear to be 06 heads. I have seen 17192-06/17193-06 and 17192-06/17193-06 for example.
Any suggestions as to part numbers for blacked out 06 heads for a TC A motor?
I am sure I will have more questions later but this would be a great start.
If the heads are going to be worked, the castings don't matter. Buying a set of '06 up heads is a waste of money; just have yours worked. Many porters will work with customers on an exchange basis and will send a ported set and charge the customer with a "core" charge which will be refunded when the porter receives the customers heads in good condition.
Sound advice on just re-working the stock heads. As I understand it, the biggest difference between the early TC heads and the 06 and later was exhaust port size and single wound valve springs?
I would assume a competent shop would know all this but I would like to go into this with eyes wide open.

Garrman
Beehive springs, 5/16" vs 7mm valve stems and exhaust port configuration are the main differences between early and late. Best bet would be to talk to a couple of head porters (two have posted a reply) and they will "open your eyes".

Yes, I do. Thanks for the correction but there is a reason for the error and I will explain.
When I was in the Army ('70-'72), I was originally assigned to a rifle company in the 25th infantry division. The company clerk/typist was a short timer and I got snagged as a temporary replacement until a new clerk/typist could be found. I assume I got snagged because I had a college education which meant I knew grammar and how to spell. I had taken typing my junior and senior year in high school (with all the cute girls) and the First Sargent soon learned that I could type pretty fast, spell and made few mistakes. So, First Sargent advised the CO and I was soon transferred from the rifle company into the S3 section of the HQ company where I typed my *** off. So, while I took **** from the guys in high school for taking typing, I dated more girls than they did and knowing how to type got me out of a rifle company.
But I digress. So sometimes, I type faster than I think; actually most of the time I type faster than I think.

That's funny.. I type way slower than I think so sometimes I forget where I'm going..
