Default Engine RPM rising quickly

weird issue today, 1999 sportster 883. Had to shift much sooner than normal today, was in 3rd gear by the time i was at 20 mph. normally that number is closer to 30-35. couldn't get above 50 mph in 5th without the engine sounding like its gonna blow. Any thoughts? Thanks

Then the clutch is not set up correctly. Assuming your belt is not skipping teeth and your final drive is in proper working order, your clutch can be the only culprit...

++++1 mr. m

if there is trash on the speed sensor it will throw off the tooth count, aka, slower indicated speed. sensor or speedo issues.
