Twin Cam motor removal
There ain't any way I'm pulling pulling a motor out without a hoist... I put the bike on the side stand and use an engine hoist.. I don't use the strap method but slide a small wood scarp under the tranny at the motor mounts and let it rest on the frame.. No straps to mess with..

I have...
a 2001 Twin cam FLT motor
transmission/gearbox for above.
...everything, Engine, the tranmission and clutch, gearbox etc is still buttoned together-
What I am finding is that I am having to hoist it up via the top bracket (and other places) with a strap for a truck.
Once this engine and tranny/box, is suspended, I can then muscle it about the standard 2001 FLHTUCI frame.
I have tried to do this job with the engine on its side with some 1/4 inch stopping me from making this a job thats anyway near 'easy'.
I do NOT see why I have to 'undo' the tranmission AND clutch, and gearbox from this massive engine- it should be 'a slot in to the standard frame' job. Surely?
Anybody offering any other ideas that may help me from taking the engine OUT of the bundle of the tranny and gear box...NOT stuffing up the gaskets, and the pins would be my main goal.
The guys that removed this engine had practice and may have even cut the frame FROM the entire engine...its GOT NOT ONE scratch on it to my amazement.
Thanks in advance- from a limey too far away etc.
Tim
BTW...Nice bike by the by...
I may be missing something but if I understand the OPs situation, he is trying to stuff a complete motor, primary and trans assembly into a compatible early frame. I don't see how that can be done or even how the OP get's within 1/4" of making it happen without dis-assembly of the primary side and removal of the tranny. The tranny is the rear motor mount and is secured in the frame by the swing arm pivot shaft. Maybe the OP has removed the rear wheel and swing arm? Some photos would be helpful; I gotta be missing something but think the OP has some dis-assembly to do.
Max's lift is cute but I don't have one so I will stick with removing the top end and other hardware necessary to remove the lower unit and do it the "hard" way.
