Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Started getting things fit up and measured tonight. I’ve got SE flat tops. Andrews 37 gear drives, starting with 07 heads and getting them worked and decked a bit. I measured my front deck height to 0.009” and my rear to 0.005”.
Im looking to be in the 10:1 range. And going to go around 79 cc’s on the combustion chamber if I can with a 0.030 head gasket.
Is this difference in height normal? I’ll be taking my cylinders to the shop this week to get them trimmed a touch so they zero.
Just wanted to make sure this is pretty normal and that I’m on the right track.
Normally early models will see the pistons down in the hole .003"-.005"; have seen some down .007". The later models were typically down deeper but it not a problem but something to account for when setting up a motor. Going to zero deck is the best approach.
