Default Looking for some help on a cam upgrade

Hello gang, I have a 2008 Softail Custom with the 96” engine, and it has the stage 1 upgrades and the V&H FP3. It has 21k miles. I want to change the cams for low to midrange riding 1500-4800 RPM’s. I also would like to have the option to upgrade to a 107” and head work. The problem is I don’t know how long it will take me (money wise) to get the stage 4.

My initial thoughts were to go with the Andrews 48H, but as I have been researching the 48’s won’t allow me to go to a 107.

Another option I thought of was the Cycel-Rama 575 or the 570’s. I have read that the CR’s have great low to midrange torque, and will allow in the future the 107 upgrades. Am I correct on this? How well does the 575 and/or 570 work in a 96” motor? I can find some dyno charts on a 103, but not on a 96”. If someone can point me to some dynos that would be great.

I also plan on a Power Vision tuner, and a 2-1 exhaust.

I would like to hear some thoughts or suggestions from anyone who is willing to help. Thanks.

Have you talked to anyone at cycle Rama? I had them do my sporty heads in 2010. I must have sent and received a dozen emails and probably the same number of calls from Wes at cycle Rama. They have the patience of God.

.575 now, and set the 107" at 10.0 when ready to build that.
Built fellow member Dave's 110" at 10.1 cr with the .575's.
113/131, sae.

No experience with the cams you are interested in, but the Power Vision is a much better choice and a far more capable tuner than the FP3. I replaced my VH Big Shot Staggered with a Rush Wrath when I went to a 107. It should perform well for you now and be able to handle any motor upgrades in the future. Might want to talk to your tuner as far as baffle size they recommend.

The approach of buying one cam that will work well in a Stage 1 96" motor with no headwork but will also work well in a 107" motor with head work is the wrong approach; doesn't work very well and will lead to disappointment. Not going to find a cam that will deliver consistently increasing power from 1500-4800rpms; sorry but not happening; 1500-4000rpms is possible though. Remember that your OEM cam intake closes at 30* BTDC so you should be looking for a cam with an earlier intake close to boost CCP; that narrows the cam choices down to a very few.

S&S 509 or even the SE255 now and Cyclerama 575 per Scott's suggested CR when you roll on to the 107" configuration. Keep it simple.
