Default M8 cylinder failure

2017 Limited with 6000 miles. Dealer just told me the very loud tapping is a piece of the cylinder that has come apart and is down in the engine. Remedy is new engine or rebuild. I am not very happy with either option. Anyone else having major issues?

That sucks. I believe you 100% but get ready for the other m8 owners to discredit you becuase they have one too and dont want to hear anything bad about them... its happened before. And yes m8s have been having a few issues like sumping, trans fluid transfer, definitely check out the m8 section.

Haven't seen this issue but a couple of times on the various HD forums. The most common issue seems to be the trans fluid transfer and that issue does not see to be widespread. I would go the new engine route.

Well the bike should be under warranty, so at least it's on there nickel. As far as failure there have been more than there should be for as many test miles they have claimed. That said, I would push for a new replacement engine.

bigron, I have 2018 heritage 114 about 3000 miles. I got a noise that is random and sounds like a marble in a spray can coming from motor or front of primary. Did yours sound like this ? Mine is not super loud and I hear it at idle . Going to dealer tomorrow.

Default Ping

On occasion I would hear a pinging like I was running low octane fuel. When the cylinder let loose there was no question it was done.. It still ran but very loud tapping noise.
