Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
So im up way to early this morning, looking at post made here, ended up at S&S website watching videos about their cam plate and oil pump, from there to Zippers performance. I know they all want my $$$$
So now it has me wondering about weather or not I need to upgrade my cam plate and oil pump,or if Id benefit from installing a LMR oil pressure spring with Baisley bypass plunger in my 2015 flhxs. Im sure it wont hurt but do I really need to worry about it right now? 19000 miles on the bike
What is your oil pressure when the motor is up to temp? At idle and when riding
At cold idle oil pressure is 35 psi, once up to temp idle it’s between 17-20 psi, while riding it stayed 34-35 psi.
Iv been chasing a top end tick left side of motor, that occurs between 2000-2500 rpms.
Below or above the rpm range the tick inst there. I tried the rocker lockers and no change
Thanks All

These things just don't need the kind of oil pressure people are used to seeing in automotive engines. About the only thing that relies on oil pressure is the lifters. Unless they bleed off oil so bad the oil pump can't keep up, they are probably not the cause of your tick.
At that narrow of an rpm range, I'd be thinking "harmonic resonance". That particualr vibration frequency that causes something to rattle or buzz. Maybe a heat shield, footpeg/floorboard? Seems I'm always chasing that kind of stuff. Fix one, and another starts making noise.
Oil pressures are fine; no need for the LMR spring or the Axtell bypass chingadera; focus on finding the "tick". Impossible to diagnose via the forum, a video might help though. Has the tick always been there or is it new? Adjustable pushrods? What lifters? Is your "left" side the primary side?
Also check for the harmonic stuff as Lawless suggested; look in the area where you believe the noise comes from a for things that could possibly make contact. The motor is still moving around a bit in that rpm range.

Ill have to take a video sometime. I dont remember if the tic was there befor the cam install or not. Its just a light tic coming from the top left side of front cylinder between 2000-2500 rpm. I pretty sure I pin pointed the tic coming from the rocker erea using my Stethoscope. I did Andrews 48 S&S adj pushrods with there tappets. I set the p/r up to .140 and the tic is still there.
Over this coming winter Ill tear it down and find what is making the tic.I was more concerned about having correct oil pressure than the tic.
Try Spectro 25-60 dino oil... nothing better when it comes to noise.

Are you sure you're not hearing injector tick? Run the bike at 2000-2500 and give it just a bit of throttle; tick go away? Probably injector tick, it's normal.

Yep thats what happens. I didnt know a injector would make that ticking noise. Ill have to get my stethoscope out and listen to the injectors.
Mine would make a little noise around 2500 rpm or so but its gone now since I had some head work done with new valve springs, retainers and keepers. No noise at all at any rpm.
