The absolute best thing you can do to a twin cam is the Axtell oil pressure valve. I start up bike and all clatter gone. Run down the road at 3000 rpm 80 mph I have 38 lbs oil pressure IN 100 DEGREE HEAT , idle pressure is about 20 lbs , used to shift by clatter ,can't do that anymore as clatter is gone. Sounds like a sewing machine now! Extra oil spraying on piston skirts helps motor run cooler. So good a product my local dealer carries both styles , one for a stock cam plate , one for screaming eagle. You won't believe the difference. I have no connection to them what so ever.
Excellent! I got rid of my valve noise with Rockouts on the top end. Fifteen bux. Plus gaskets. I'm wondering if the extra oil washing over the rockers is simply masking the noise rather than getting rid of the problem. Regarding the extra oil pressure, in my experience, Harleys from the panhead forward have always had pretty low oil pressure, especially at idle, but also at higher RPM, compared to other engines. But it works for them. And the engines are engineered for that particular oil pressure. Not more. Not less. But I'm glad this was a solution to your problem! It's a good feeling when that happens!
The lifters would take quite a while to pump up with oil, bike has been noisy since new. Would have a little pre ignition going on up hill on a hot day , that is gone too. Quite amazing that Harley did not come out with it. Found out about it by accident. Could not believe my Harley dealer thinks so much of them that they stock them!
If a dealer is stocking them, are they installing them? That would seem to be a bit out of the ordinary, but then not any different than modifying the pistons or cams I suppose.
Is low oil pressure a known problem with Harley Twin cam motors? I'm pretty sure if Harley found it to be an issue where it causes motor failure ,they would have put stronger springs in long ago. A spring has to be cheaper to replace then a motor.,,,
Yeah it's a problem. It is a whole valve , not just the cheap spring Harley put in. At 70,000 miles had to have cams and lifters replaced under warranty , lost their hardening. Hey I can't believe the difference it made! You don't have to put one on. I just posted because I could not believe the racket is gone and extra oil going to the piston skirts makes the engine just a little cooler.I would imagine Harley is about done with the twin cam but there is a lot of them out there1
