Could this be a problem? Can be cruising at about 3000 rpms , then when I let off the throttle ,starts to clicky clacky noise around 2000 rpms. Sounds like its coming from the front cylinder .Will continue to make the noise if i keep it at 2000 rpms. Anything above or below seems to be alright. It can be sitting in my garage and rev it up and down, nothing , no clicky clacky noise! Its a flhtpi. Its got 38000 on it and was told by previous owner it had the cam tentioners redone about 4000 mi. ago. Any ideas would be appreciated ! By the way, Love this site !
Very common issue but there is a solution. Do you know if pushrods are OEM or adjustable? If adjustable, more preload on lifters, say to .140" might solve the problem. Another cause of an rpm related noise is the rocker shafts rotating in the support plate bosses. Easy to diagnose; pull the rocker shafts and take a look. If the shaft(s) are rotating, there will be witness marks on the bolts that are supposed to lock the shafts in place. The cure is a set of Rocker Lockers; cheap and easy fix. http://rockerlockers.com/
Classic example of rocker shaft noise. have a look around my website, might be just what you need

My guess would be a loose primary chain.. Especially if it's 06 or older.. The laters can still do it.. Chain hits the case on the front upper part of the primary. Sitting on the bike it will be down and toward the front.
