Long Block Program
As far as making the decision to replace a motor or get another used bike depends on too many questions that only the individual can make.
My situation was the Dealer found my motor (98" Stage 3 98/107) problems while in for a base gasket replacement. They had been weeping for the last year and getting worse. So once they started with the teardown it was "It could go another 50 ft. or 500 miles but its a wonder the it runs at all". The farther into the motor they got the more they found. it started with a badly warn rocker arm cracked valve seal, cam due to or because of the rocker arm, scored cylinders, and the final blow was the crank. (know problem with the twin cam motors) Yes i saw all of this damage and agreed with the Dealer. The repairs would have been more than the new motor $$ and going to the S&S 111 or the 124 would have required even more changes and $$$ (larger throttle body, air cleaner, new clutch.) As I had the bike setup the way I wanted it with all of the add-on chrome accessories and stereo it was a no brainer to replace the motor with the HD Long Block. (103" and cam Stage 2 making +100/100) So I have a USED 2005 NEW Ultra 50K miles and starting to count miles again with a new motor.
KenK
I love the bike now, stronger than before with 26h cams...while I had it open I replaced the belt, swing arm bearings , bushings, inner primary seal, then I did a Barnett clutch, new spring and a Baker compensator...I also had the dealer activate the Automatic compression releases....
i have a 07 that potentially can last the rest of my life...
Not saying the HD longblock program is crap but for a lot less you can get so more...
