So yes, I will try to rebuild my motor, but if I have to buy a replacement mill,
will any TC88 motor from those years (99 - 05) that aren't softail motors (i.e. dyna WG or touring models) bolt right up to my FXDX frame, trans and primary, and work without any mods?

Please and thanks.

Yes they will one possible exception. You might need to change the ignition module to 1 that doesn't need a cam sensor. Don't forget that 06 bagger motor will also work. 06 dynas? No...

Interesting.
The 06 bagger motor is a 96" no?
But didn't I hear lots of warnings to stay away from the 2006 models?

All non cvo motors were still 88 ci. Even the Dyna which won't fit.. BTW 06 bagger motors had the better cylinder heads.

Interesting. So look for a 2006 bagger motor, but stay away from the 2006 Dyna motor?

In 2006 the dynas got the 6 speed tranny, new primary and engine cases. Baggers caught up in 2007 and HD stroked all the big twins to 4 3/8.
