Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
i have a 04 road king, first owner took it 24k miles in 4 years, second owner took it less than 1k in 10 years. I got the bike this spring and did everything to it - all new fluids, scavenged the hell out of the engine oil - drained the gas - bled the burned brake fluid out and replaced the tires. Its a great bike, but Im looking for more.
I ride typically around town and up and down some very steep hills. Im more focused on getting good hp/tq from 0-60 than I am from 60-100, although I do get out on the open road half the time. I ride only solo.
What at would you recommend for cams, 98 kit, heads, springs - anything. I plan to do everything aside from crack the case. Ive got some ideas, but Id like to use forum vendor supporters with solid information from seasoned engine builders.
Ive got not problems doing the work and have all the tools from previous projects.
a nice,mild reliable build that's worked great is 98",mild touring headwork,S&S .570 or Andrews 54 cams with compression set @ 10.2-1.good HP/TQ from 2200-5500
Another torque-specific touring combination that our clients like is this;
Our HMM Stage II Heads
Our HMM 98" Big Bore Kit
Andrews 26 cams
9.7 compression
Comes up on the torque very quickly, and carries it out.
No frills straightforward combination that just works.
